About the Role

As a Senior Credit Analyst, you’ll work alongside experienced Credit Specialists to assess funding applications from businesses seeking financial support through Innovate UK’s lending programmes.

You’ll analyse financial information, review business performance, identify credit risks, engage directly with applicants, and prepare recommendations for the Credit Committee.

Depending on your experience and performance, you’ll also manage your own portfolio of lending cases while contributing to wider credit and portfolio management activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse business financial statements and management accounts.
  • Assess business viability using cash flow analysis, sensitivity testing and balance sheet reviews.
  • Gather additional financial information from applicants.
  • Support Credit Specialists with lending recommendations.
  • Present credit decisions to the Credit Committee.
  • Maintain accurate credit documentation and audit-ready records.
  • Support legal documentation and loan completion processes.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolios.
  • Conduct annual credit reviews.
  • Identify early financial warning signs.
  • Recommend interventions where risks are identified.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Participate in departmental improvement projects.
  • Continue professional development within commercial lending and credit analysis.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience analysing company financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of business finance and credit risk.
  • Ability to interpret financial accounts and identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing reports and presenting recommendations.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Good understanding of lending, banking or alternative finance.
  • Experience in forecasting, covenant monitoring and financial process management.
